John Holland and KBR (for Melbourne Water) designed and constructed a new primary sludge thickening facility to increase the capacity of the existing processor at the Eastern Treatment Plant in Bangholme, Victoria. Rotary Drum Thickener (RDT) technology was installed with a new 5T gantry crane. All the mechanical equipment was designed with operator ergonomics and accessibility in mind. The new system is capable of thickening up to 3 tonnes of primary sludge per hour to increase the sludge processing capability of the plant.
